Winter Wilderness was one of three paintings in the same size format that was started prior to the pandemic. There was a process of preparing the paintings beforehand, following a long period of doing small scale work, so there is no direct reaction to the pandemic other than they were painted during it.
The theme is of exploring memories that have left a visual impact. This one touches on what is almost a different life during a winter in Russia. Walking with a group across a snow-covered wilderness to visit a lone church. On arrival, the church was closed.
